Pastor Learning Curve Priorities
New pastors
Five priorities for your first months as you climb the mountain of ministry.
Prioritize Prayer and Preaching.
Rick gives insights and accountability on the first task of a pastor to find a Garden of Gethsemane to walk with God and a group so we do not walk alone. We need a garden, and a group like Jesus.
Build Trust with the people and leaders.
When there is trust, everything speeds up. Decisions don’t drag. Discernment freely flows. Ideas are welcome. Rick points you to trust builders and helps you avoid trust breakers.
Empower the board to empower the staff.
Empowering church boards develop people as they invest time in discipleship, delegation, developing elder quality leaders. Study Scripture with Rick and Identify elders and how to empower.
Connect to your local community.
Loving one another is our greatest connection to the community (John 13:34,35). Strengthen classical works of Christian mercy and develop strategies to connect guests and newcomers.
Commit to a Barnabas and apprentices.
We need to be careful with our coach and we need to discern the qualities of a good apprentice. Discern with Rick five qualities in a true Barnabas and your Timothy as you study Scripture with Rick.
The opportunity
I am available to meet on Zoom with you probe these five priorities. The first Zoom call is an hour of sharing our stories and getting to know each other. Then, before each Zoom you receive a pdf of the session to read and reflect upon. We meet for five sessions at your speed!
One added benefit is that I am available between Zooms for immediate input by appointment. As I redeploy to coaching, I hope to serve you as we build relationships in the Gospel that glorify our great God.
In my experience, the first task of a pastor for a good start is to find a Garden of Gethsemane to walk with God and a group to be with people.
